Candle Care 101: Tips and Tricks for Long-Lasting Fragrance

Candles not only illuminate our spaces but also fill them with delightful fragrances that can elevate our mood and transform our environment. However, to ensure that these fragrant wonders continue to serve us well, proper candle care is essential.

Here, we share essential tips and tricks to help your candles burn longer and maintain their enchanting aroma.

1. Keep the Wick Trimmed

One of the most crucial steps in candle care is regularly trimming the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. This helps prevent the flame from becoming too large, which can cause excessive smoking and reduce the candle’s lifespan.

A properly trimmed wick will give you a cleaner, brighter burn and help maintain the candle's fragrance integrity.

2. Allow a Full Melt Pool

To maximize the life of your scented candle, allow the wax to melt across the entire surface before extinguishing the flame. This process, known as achieving a full melt pool, prevents tunneling — where the candle burns straight down the middle, leaving a ring of unused wax along the container's sides.

For most candles, this takes about one hour for every inch in diameter. Allowing a full melt pool ensures even burning and maximum fragrance release.

3. Avoid Drafts

Place your candle in a location free from drafts to prevent uneven burning and possible candle soot. Drafts can also cause rapid burning, which shortens the life of your candle. By positioning your candle in a stable, draft-free environment, you ensure a steady flame and uniform use of the wax.

4. Use a Candle Snuffer

When extinguishing your candle, consider using a snuffer instead of blowing it out. This method not only prevents hot wax from splattering but also minimizes smoke and preserves the wick's integrity. A candle snuffer is a small but valuable tool in maintaining the longevity and performance of your candles.

5. Store Your Candles Properly

If you’re not planning to burn your candle for a while, store it in a cool, dark place. Excessive heat or light can cause the fragrance oils to evaporate, diminishing the scent of the candle when you do light it. Also, keep the lid on or wrap the candle in an airtight bag to lock in the fragrance.

By following these simple but effective candle care tips, you can greatly extend the life of your candles and enhance their fragrance delivery.

Not only does this make your candles more enjoyable, but it also offers better value for your investment. So, light up your favorite candle and let its fragrance gently waft through your home, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere for all who enter.
